Pharmacy for the Public Good helps create community wellness.

Mission Statement

Expanding a new model of pharmacy and wellness centers built around a holistic philosophy of care and a commitment to serve all individuals and families regardless of race, religion, or ability to pay.

Incorporate within the wellness centers educational and training opportunities for high school students, college students, and post-college students interested in a career in health care.

Ed Ullman and his team at Wellness Rx LLC in Tannersville have created a new nonprofit model of pharmacy and wellness centers, under the banner of Pharmacy for the Public Good (PPG). PPG will be the umbrella for which all new nonprofit Wellness Rx centers will fall.

PPG received its articles of incorporation on November 17th, 2021 and its 501(c)(3) tax exempt status on August 19, 2022 (effective 11/17/21). EIN 87-3649841.

Establishing Wellness Rx Centers for medically underserved communities that center solely on serving the public good, and not private interests is the goal. Our model operates on solid management principles and business structure, and expects to generate net income over years to ensure permanence in future years, for generations to come.

Our first mission was to open the very first nonprofit community pharmacy in America, which we did on April 7, 2023 in Phoenicia, NY.

Our sights are now on New Lebanon as the next possible location.

We are simultaneously working to raise funds for the conversion of Wellness Rx LLC in Tannersville to a PPG nonprofit pharmacy. As a non profit we will be able to apply for grants and funding not previously available to us as an LLC.

We plan to operate each new center we open as Wellness Rx, under the banner of Pharmacy for the Public Good, as we fundraise to reach these goals.

Each wellness center and pharmacy will follow our current Wellness Rx model with its own Wellness Rx Charitable Trust and Patient Assistance Fund to help its community members.

The core of each Wellness Rx Center:

  1. Each Wellness Rx Center is where physical, mental, emotional, social, environmental, spiritual, intellectual, and occupational needs are met and expanded.

  2. To treat every person with dignity and equality, regardless of race, religion, or income. Offer a sliding scale fee or free assistance if necessary, allowing our most vulnerable to get health and wellness support and services. Improving the level of health in a rural area reduces communicable disease and improves overall wellness including mental health.

  3. Develop a culture of kindness and service to one another. Giving back is positive for wellness and for the spiritual aspect of every individual. Giving to those in need strengthens the entire community, socially, emotionally and economically. Giving feels right. Greater health for all strengthens the whole community, for we are all connected.

  4. Continue to expand and develop a Public Health Department to address epidemics/pandemics, public health challenges, substance abuse, domestic violence, and engaging impacted entities to identify risks and develop a whole community response and wellness outcome.

  5. Develop a Mental Health Department for onsite or home services and case management for at risk children and/or adults. During the COVID pandemic, many people came to Wellness Rx for help, and got it. The stories of assistance are powerful. While we are looking forward to expanding our team, our current Certified Mental Health/Recovery Coach is available with decades of experience with the underserved.

  6. Use the Wellness Rx Charitable Trust to create a Center for Human Development (potentially named by a patron).

  7. Conduct student training through paid internships for those committed to a career in healthcare; pharmacy, nursing, mental health, public health, etc. (Wellness Rx Tannersville is currently working with our 9th intern!)

  8. Develop a Research and Development (R&D) Department to evaluate healthcare trends impacting rural and underserved communities.  Study products and methods that improve public health. Apply evidence-based improvements to broaden and hasten community wellness, and continue to share the studies on our home pharmacy’s website www.wellnessrxllc.com.

  9. Develop a Minor Emergency Service to help triage cases between what can be handled within the Wellness Center, what needs urgent care consultation, what needs emergency room intervention, what needs immediate EMS/911 attention and what needs coordination with law enforcement and/or mental health professionals.

  10. Develop a Nutritional Program to help serve community members in need of nutritional support. Employing professionals from the area to write programs, offer free public presentations, and group or one on one nutritional counseling.

  11. Develop an At Home Program (Wellness on Wheels) to serve the elderly, disabled, or homebound members of our communities. Offering delivery services for prescriptions and OTC’s, with the intention of building our the program to include wellness checks.

We are fundraising to transition our current pharmacy, Wellness Rx, to a nonprofit pharmacy, to enhance and expand healthcare services which will ensure the permanency of the community pharmacy in Tannersville, NY.

We are also seeking funding support to help sustain the first satellite pharmacy in Phoenicia, NY during its formative years. Click on our donate tab at the top of the page to help.
