Phoenicia needs your support!

“Ten years ago I went back to my roots as a community pharmacist in an effort to create a new sustainable model for community pharmacy in America. A model that blended traditional pharmacy with natural medicine, provided clinical services and treated minor emergencies, and was committed to community service especially in the areas of mental health, public health, nutrition, student training, education and helping those in need.

We were invited to establish this new model in the mountain top community of Tannersville, NY, and after 9 years, Wellness Rx in Tannersville has become a local success story. Quickly we became the wellness hub for locals, second homeowners, new members of the community and visitors alike. We have been awarded as a “Face of Pharmacy” by Pharmacy Times and have been featured on WNYT News Channel 13 Albany and many other regional and national media outlets.

Still, the economic pressures of keeping a for-profit independent community pharmacy open in America has resulted in 25% of all communities losing their local pharmacy. It was time for a new approach. This led us to the creation of a new nonprofit model of pharmacy and wellness centers, under the banner of Pharmacy for the Public Good (PPG). PPG will be the umbrella for which all new nonprofit Wellness Rx centers will be created.

Our first mission was to open the very first nonprofit community pharmacy in America, which we did in our hometown of Phoenicia at 53 Main St., the old KeyBank. The new store will serve as a spark for revitalization of the hamlet. PPG was dedicated to the “Spirit of Patty Ullmann '' and only became a reality with the strong support of the entire community and donations from local private foundations and individuals with our first fundraising effort.

We are now launching our second fundraising drive to ensure the success of our nonprofit Phoenicia Wellness Rx, especially with its first two years of operations. We again seek the help of the community.”

Donation information can be found on our website. We deeply appreciate any support you can give.

Sincerely,

Ed Ullmann
